Why Dementia Awareness Matters

Dementia affects millions of people worldwide and has a profound impact not only on those living with the condition but also on their families, friends and carers.

Raising awareness helps to:

  • Challenge misconceptions surrounding dementia
  • Encourage greater understanding and inclusion
  • Promote early support and intervention
  • Reduce stigma
  • Create more dementia-friendly communities

At Amicura, delivering compassionate, person-centred dementia care is at the heart of everything we do. We understand the importance of recognising every individual’s unique story, preferences and needs, ensuring residents continue to live with dignity, purpose and fulfilment.

This Dementia Action Week, we decided to put the power directly into the hands of our digital community to make a measurable difference.

Through our digital giving initiative, Amicura committed to donating £1 for every single post ‘Like’ and £2 for every ‘Share’ to the Alzheimer’s Society. We watched with immense pride as our teams, professional networks, and resident loved ones shared our updates across their feeds. This collective effort has culminated in a fundraising total of £161.

From a care sector perspective, campaigns like this do an extraordinary job of bridging the gap between local care homes and national support frameworks. Every interaction helped elevate the visibility of best-practice, person-centred care, while providing the Alzheimer’s Society with the resources needed to fund advice lines, support groups, and vital medical research.
